Why am I not seeing LPR Printing as an option when trying to configure a printer in Windows 2000?

Symptom:

There is no LPR printer option in Windows 2000

Cause:

Print Services for Unix has not been installed.

Solutions:

The following steps are needed to get the UNIX print services installed in Windows 2000:

First, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Select Add/Remove Windows Components, then, Other Network File and Print Services. Select Details, then check the box for Print Services for Unix. OK, OK, After installing this service, you will have to reboot. Upon rebooting, Windows 2000 will show LPR printing as an option when adding a printer.
