setting password from a backup.cfg on a ConnectPort LTS

When uploading a backup.cfg to a ConnectPort LTS in order to set the password,

you might experience, that the password is not set with the value from the backup.cfg file.

Route cause and workaround:

ConnectPort LTS terminal servers with a unique password on their sticker (manufactured after 2019, see: https://www.digi.com/support/knowledge-base/unique-default-passwords-for-digi-products) require a backup.cfg file which was created or saved from a unique password device, or a backup.cfg without password. Older backup.cfg file created on a non-unique password device will not inherit the password.

Workaround:

for older devices use a backupold.cfg

for newer devices with unique password: upload a backupold.cfg (will not change password, but other settings), change the password from the web interface or command line interface (CLI) and save as backupnew.cfg

backupnew.cfg can be used on ConnectPort LTS devices with unqiue password.
