The Internet of Things is a truly amazing phenomenon, playing an important role in a massive number of connected projects across the globe that drive critical insights, improve efficiency, automate processes, and allow organizations to keep their finger on the pulse of their operations — no matter how complex or widely dispersed they may be.
IoT initiatives today include some inspiring green and sustainable applications, from smart street lighting and smart building innovations to applications for intelligent traffic systems and public transportation that reduce pollution and the use of fossil fuels, including electric vehicles, EV charging stations, clean energy and resource-saving agricultural and industrial operations. IoT technologies play a vital role in helping commercial and industrial organizations and municipalities to become greener and to help preserve our planet.
It’s one reason we are passionate about the IoT market, and why around Earth Day each year we announce the Digi Green Tech Customer Innovation Awards to honor the remarkable achievements of organizations that are using IoT technologies to promote sustainability.
Meet the 2025 Digi Green Tech Customer Innovation Award Winners
We are excited to shine a spotlight on this year’s award winners — organizations that are leveraging IoT technology to drive meaningful change, and in many cases to help a large network of their customers to do the same. Each of these organizations exemplifies how connectivity, intelligence and innovation support more responsible choices for our planet.
Origo.ag: Agricultural Weather Monitoring
Origo.ag develops IoT products and services to remotely monitor and control large broadacre and livestock operations across Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales. Using sensors and cameras as well as internally designed hardware, software, and analytics, Origo helps farmers monitor weather systems with precision in order to ensure optimal use of rainwater and watering systems to maximize crop production and increase profitability.
Using Digi XBee® wireless communication modules configured in a mesh network via DigiMesh®, Origo.ag offers networked solutions that monitor a variety of conditions across hundreds of square miles. The company’s family of weather, climate, and soil stations monitor the microclimate and environmental conditions across the farm, enabling their agriculture customers to carefully monitor, control, and optimize their use of resources.
IRROMETER: Agricultural Soil Monitoring
IRROMETER has been in business for over 75 years, supporting growers and researchers around the world who need accurate measurement data to optimize their irrigation activities. The company’s portfolio of soil-moisture sensors provides visibility into the root zone, allowing managers to make smarter choices about when, where, and how much to irrigate.
While the technology to monitor and optimize remote systems has been available for some time, IoT complexity has been challenging. But today, IRROMETER utilizes Digi XBee 3 Global Cellular modems integrated with the capabilities of Digi Remote Manager®, to offer their customers a simple, reliable, and affordable solution that optimizes water usage, reduces energy costs, and improves crop yields.
Dimonoff: Smart City Lighting
Dimonoff — an innovator in wireless controls and remote-monitoring technologies for street and area lighting — offers a state-of-the-art IoT management platform that enables municipalities to remotely access, monitor, and control smart urban assets. These solutions come at a critical time when cities are becoming smarter and more resource conscious, and need solutions that help to reduce carbon, wirelessly manage their lighting systems remotely, and reduce truck rolls.
Based on Digi XBee DigiMesh modules, Dimonoff’s solution offers metering of each fixture or circuit, and precise control over lighting status (on/off), output levels, and scheduling. The system tracks real-time fixture data, including power consumption, voltage, current, power factor, and operating status and offers automated alerts, enabling administrators to configure and control streetlights and optimize power management.
Innotek: Industrial Sensing and Control
Innotek, Inc. specializes in innovative IoT solutions for a range of customers in the oil and gas, municipal water, and rural irrigation sectors as well as radio/TV towers. Smaller, remote sites typically don’t warrant expensive management systems such as SCADA solutions, yet these sites have enormous opportunity to optimize their operations and reduce their environmental impact with the insights and management such systems offer. That is Innotek’s sweet spot.
Utilizing Digi XBee 3 Global low-power LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular modems, Innotek offers innovative, affordable monitoring and control systems for hard-to-reach locations and budget-constrained sites while helping those sites to improve their eco-footprint, maximize solar-power usage, and mitigate damage from accidental spills. Combined with Digi Remote Manager® providing OTA updates and remote hardware resets, the XBee cellular modems are easily configured and controlled from a simple, central platform.
NuOz: Smart Building Enablement
NuOz helps hundreds of organizations to view and manage energy consumption — utilizing instant and continuous metrics that help them make timely decisions, reduce costs, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen their commitment to sustainability goals. the IoT-based suite of services from NuOz offers building managers the critical visibility and intelligence needed for smarter energy management as well as water-usage tracking, gas/propane usage monitoring, refrigeration monitoring, leak detection, and more.
Their solutions are particularly critical for organizations seeking to reduce energy consumption. Utilizing connectivity provided by Digi EX12 LTE and Digi EX50 5G cellular solutions and remote management with Digi Remote Manager, NuOz can show an organization what’s happening minute-by-minute for proactive decision making and optimization.
National Control Devices (NCD) is leader in the design, manufacture, testing, and deployment of sensor-based products that help organizations to gain insights on their remote equipment. NCD sensors, controllers, and solutions offer affordable choices for applications across a range of industries from farming to manufacturing. In many of these deployments, even small variances in vibration, temperature, pressure, or gases can translate into major concerns about safety, cost, or impact on the environment.
Utilizing Digi XBee PRO 900HP RF modules, NCD sensor solutions provide superior range and low power consumption, enabling their customers across the globe to keep their fingers on the pulse of their deployed systems, improve energy efficiency, reduce waste in water systems, optimize the use of natural resources, while also reducing costs.
