By UC Berkeley CITRIS Lab Students
Students at UC Berkeley have modded Google Glass in order to control home appliances. It’s as simple as looking at the device, selecting from the menu, and then you are able to turn the appliance on/off or adjust other parameters.
The students modified Glass by attaching an IR emitter onto the side. The IR emitter’s beam is about 2-4 feet wide at typical room distances. Appliances in the home are then paired with an XBee and microcontroller.
