The IX15 supports the ability to function as a Modbus gateway, to provide serial-to-Ethernet connectivity to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and other industrial devices. MODBUS provides client/server communication between devices connected on different types of buses and networks, and the Modbus gateway allows for communication between buses and networks that use the Modbus protocol.
The IX15 also allows Modbus devices to be connected wirelessly, using the XBee communication. This way, the PLC or PC-SCADA connected to the Gateway can communicate with Modbus devices, eliminating wire installation.
