Create initial list of Known Hubs

After you have installed the AnywhereUSB Manager on your computer and established a connection between the Manager and the Hubs that are on the same network segment, you should create a list of Known Hubs that are allowed to connect to the Manager. These are the Hubs that your AnywhereUSB Manager is allowed to connect to each time it is launched.

By default, the Autofind Hubs option is enabled, which ensures that the Hubs on the same network segment are automatically found by the Manager when the Hubs are powered and connected to your network. This feature is useful if you are connecting multiple Hubs at once. You can review these Hubs and add them to the Known Hubs list.

In addition to using the Autofind feature, you can also manually add Hubs to the Known Hubs list. These Hubs can be on the same network as your computer or on a different network. You can add Hubs with either IPv4 or IPv6 addresses.

Digi recommends that after your Hubs have made the initial connection to the AnywhereUSB Manager and you have added the Hubs found during the Autofind process to the Known Hubs list, you should disable the Autofind Hubs feature. This reduces your network traffic and duplicate Hub connection attempts.

The steps below explain how to add Hubs to the Known Hubs list and disable Autofind Hubs.

  1. This process can be performed after you have installed the AnywhereUSB Manager and assembled and powered your Hubs, and the Hubs have connected to the Manager.

  2. If the AnywhereUSB Manager is not open, launch the Manager.
  3. The Hubs found during the Autofind process display in the Manager. Add the Hubs in the Manager to the list of Known Hubs.

    1. Right-click on a Hub in the AnywhereUSB Manager to display the shortcut menu.

    2. Click Add to Known Hubs List.

    3. Repeat for each Hub.

  4. (Optional) Verify that the Hub was added to the Known Hubs list.

    1. Click on the name of Hub you just added and note the IP address or name that is shown in the panel to the right.

    2. Click Configure > Known Hubs. Verify that the IP address or the name of the Hub is in the list.

  5. Disable Autofind Hubs.

    1. Click File > Preferences. The Preferences dialog displays.

    2. Click the check box next to Autofind Hubs to disable the feature. The check mark is removed.

    3. Click Save.

  6. If desired, you can also manually add Hub IP addresses to the Known Hubs list.

  7. You can enable the Autofind Hubs feature at any time and then repeat this process to automatically find Hubs and add them to the Known Hubs list.
