Use the default Wi-Fi access point

By default, the EX15W device comes with one preconfigured access point, Digi AP. The access point is enabled by default. However, because the access point is not a member of a LAN interface, if you connect to this access point, you will not be provided an IP address and will not have network access.

To remedy this situation, you can either:

  1. Create a LAN interface for the access point.
  2. Configure the existing LAN interface to include the access point.

Create a LAN interface for the access point

In this example procedure, we will create a new LAN interface, named WiFi_LAN, and include the preconfigured access point in the new interface.

  1. Log into Digi Remote Manager, or log into the local Web UI as a user with full Admin access rights.
  2. Access the device configuration:

    1. Locate your device as described in Use Digi Remote Manager to view and manage your device.
    2. Click the Device ID.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click to expand Config.

    1. On the menu, click System. Under Configuration, click Device Configuration.

      The Configuration window is displayed.

  3. Click Network > Interfaces.
  4. For Add interface, type WIFI_LAN and click .

  5. For Zone, select Internal.
  6. For Device, select Wi-Fi access point: Digi AP.
  7. Click to expand IPv4.
  8. For Address, type 192.168.2.1/24.
  9. Click to expand DHCP server.
  10. Click Enable.

  11. Click Apply to save the configuration and apply the change.
  1. Select the device in Remote Manager and click Actions > Open Console, or log into the EX15 local command line as a user with full Admin access rights.

    Depending on your device configuration, you may be presented with an Access selection menu. Type admin to access the Admin CLI.

  2. At the command line, type config to enter configuration mode:

    > config
(config)>

  3. Create the new LAN:
    (config)> add network interface WIFI_LAN
(config network interface WIFI_LAN)>
  4. Set the zone to internal:
    (config network interface WIFI_LAN)> zone internal
(config network interface WIFI_LAN)>
  5. Set the device to digi_ap:
    (config network interface WIFI_LAN)> device /network/wifi/ap/digi_ap
(config network interface WIFI_LAN)>
  6. Set the IPv4 address of the LAN:
    (config network interface WIFI_LAN)> ipv4 address 192.168.2.1/24
(config network interface WIFI_LAN)>
  7. Enable the DHCP server:
    (config network interface WIFI_LAN)> ipv4 dhcp_server enable true
(config network interface WIFI_LAN)>
  8. Save the configuration and apply the change.
    (config)> save
Configuration saved.

  9. Type exit to exit the Admin CLI.

    Depending on your device configuration, you may be presented with an Access selection menu. Type quit to disconnect from the device.

Configure the existing LAN interface to include the access point

In this procedure, we will convert the EX15W device's default LAN from passthrough mode to router mode and assign the default bridge to the LAN.

  1. Log into Digi Remote Manager, or log into the local Web UI as a user with full Admin access rights.
  2. Access the device configuration:

    1. Locate your device as described in Use Digi Remote Manager to view and manage your device.
    2. Click the Device ID.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click to expand Config.

    1. On the menu, click System. Under Configuration, click Device Configuration.

      The Configuration window is displayed.

  3. Click Network > Interfaces > LAN.
  4. For Interface type, select Ethernet.
  5. For Device, select Bridge: LAN.

  6. Enable the bridge:
    1. Click Network > Bridges > LAN.
    2. Click Enable.

  7. Click Apply to save the configuration and apply the change.
